Since 1964, IEL has equipped leaders to work together across boundaries to build effective systems that prepare children and youth for postsecondary education, careers, and citizenship. For a half-century, the Institute for Educational Leadership has championed the need for leaders at all levels to shake off their institutional constraints and work across boundaries to address the needs of young people and their families. Bound by no constituency, IEL serves as a catalyst that helps policymakers, administrators, and practitioners at all levels to bridge bureaucratic silos and undo gridlock to improve outcomes for all young people and their families. IEL encourages leaders to work across institutional boundaries, increase their knowledge, and expand their networks. IEL focuses on educational leadership, youth leadership, parent and family leadership, and community leadership. IEL's professional development efforts focus on building organizational and individual capacity, convening policy seminars and events, and fostering professional and peer learning networks and communities of practices. IEL helps inform and guide policy related to transition-age youth, individual and career development plans, community schools, and universal design for learning. IEL's policy work focuses on local, state, and national levels. IEL bridges research, policy, and practice to identify and promote innovative and compelling strategies related to early childhood education, schools and communities, and youth transition to adulthood.
