From the 13th century, higher studies were taught in the city of Valencia, since in 1245, King Jaume I had obtained the institution of a Studium Generale from Pope Innocent IV. However, it was not until October 30, 1499 when the juries of the city of Valencia drafted the Constitutions of what was going to be the first University of Valencia, an institution authorized by the Bull of January 23, 1501, Signed by the Valencian Pope Alexander VI, and by the royal privilege of Ferdinand II the Catholic, granted on February 16, 1502. Over the course of more than five hundred years, the development of the University of Valencia has gone hand in hand with the growth of the city, and has formed an inextricable part of its urban fabric, generating spaces for teaching, research , The creation and diffusion of culture and science, as well as for the transfer of knowledge.
