cos.eduCollege of the Sequoias is a comprehensive community college in beautiful Visalia, California, just west of the Sequoia National Park. In addition to offering associate’s degrees and certificates, College of the Sequoias has numerous programs to assist unemployed, migrant or impoverished students in getting the training and support they need for a solid career. Serving the Central Valley, College of the Sequoias offers associate degrees leading to immediate careers or to a four-year university program. Included among its academic departments are Agriculture, Architecture, Aviation, Business, Counseling, Fine Arts, Fire Technology, Journalism, Language Arts, Law Enforcement, Nursing and Social Sciences. In addition to its range of degree programs, Sequoia offers specialized services providing extensive support to challenged students seeking a career path. One of these programs is the California MiniCorps, which assists migrant students who wish to work as elementary or high school teachers in California. College of the Sequoias also participates in CalWORKS, a program for low-income students that offers them career training, paid on-campus employment, career counseling and job placement help. Additional support programs include Puente, which is devoted to enrolling Latino students in four-year schools, CDC-Works, a program for future childcare workers, and TRIO programs for low-income and first-generation students who need motivation and support to stay in school. Other student support available to all Sequoia students include tutoring, academic advising, career assessment and financial aid, which is awarded through grants, loans and other sources to eligible students.
