The university offers a variety of academics with nearly 20 undergraduate majors like Literature and Cultures, Physics and Sociology. Admissions require that students have completed the required ACT Plus Writing Test or the SAT Reasoning Test. A 3.0 GPA or better is also required. The admissions policy reviews not only these numbers, but other academic accomplishments, any demonstrated leadership potential or service, academic participation, talents, experiences and interests. Tuition for any university can be costly, but the University of California—Merced offers financial aid in grants, federal and private loans, need- or merit-based scholarships and work-study. To apply for financial aid, students should submit a FAFSA, complete the University of California Application of Admissions and Scholarships and the Cal Grant GPA Verification form. With over 100 clubs and organizations at the University of California—Merced, student life is always active. And, with Yosemite National park just a couple of hours from campus, students have many opportunities for relaxation and exploration beyond the classroom.
