Its mission is to serve democracy by revealing the abuse of power as well as the corruption and betrayal of public trust by powerful public and private institutions, using the tools of investigative journalism. In 2014, The Center for Public Integrity won the Pulitzer Prize for Investigative Reporting. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., CPI was founded in 1989 by Charles Lewis.
