The City of Jersey City was incorporated by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on January 28, 1820. Known as America’s Golden Door, Jersey City is the second-most populous city in New Jersey and one of the most diverse cities, if not the most diverse, in the entire country. As an employer, the City of Jersey City strives to lead the public sector in innovative, ethical best practices in a way that honors and respects Jersey City’s roots while decidedly moving it towards its ever brighter, prosperous future.
