The academics of the future are what distinguish Lawrence University from other four year schools. In addition to liberal arts majors and a renowned music conservatory, Lawrence provides various combined degrees and approaches to learning not found at most schools. Located in Appleton, Wisconsin, Lawrence was established over 100 years ago and, as one of the first co-ed schools in the country, has always treasured innovation. Students at Lawrence may pursue a standard bachelor’s degree in such fields as: *Art History *Biochemistry *Education *Film Studies *International Studies *Psychology Students may also combine degrees. For example, Lawrence’s Engineering program allows students to earn a bachelor’s in liberal arts as well as a second degree in Engineering from an affiliate university. The prestigious Music program also allows students to earn two bachelor’s degrees, in Music and in Liberal Arts, in only five years. Independent study courses and self-designed majors are another option at Lawrence. Another of Lawrence’s innovative learning methods is the tutorial, which brings together a small group of students from a certain class to study their subject in more depth. Academic internships, which are available to all students, round out the Lawrence experience by providing practical experience. Freshmen applicants must submit a transcript and a recommendation letter. Those applying for admission to the music program must also audition. SAT or ACT scores are optional for all Lawrence applicants. Financial aid sources include academic and music scholarships and need-based federal loans. The school also supplies information about private scholarships.
