Glyndŵr University started in 2008 so they are still one of the youngest universities in the UK. They are named after a Welsh scholar and hero called Owain Glyndŵr and they aim to champion some of the same philosophies as him. The university sets out to be bold, enterprising and open to all in everything that it does. They have been delivering education at their main Wrexham campus since 1887, when they were known as the Wrexham School of Science and Art. They started offering degrees in 1924 find out more here. Their knowledge and expertise is fed back into their courses, ensuring they provide students with only the most relevant skills for 21st century industry. Starting out with just their Wrexham campus in 2008, they now have campuses in St Asaph and Northop in North Wales, and at Elephant and Castle in London. More than 9,000 students study with us. More than 85% of these are undergraduate students, with nearly 1500 making up the postgraduate student population.* They are proud of the opportunities which they provide for those from non-traditional backgrounds to enter higher education. More than half of their students study part-time and they are one of the UK’s leading universities for supporting students from lower socio-economic backgrounds through university thanks to their comprehensive Widening Access programme in the local community. The university is a key part of the community in Wrexham, owning the Glyndŵr University Racecourse Stadium where Wrexham FC and the North Wales Crusaders rugby league team play home games and hosting sports clubs at their Sports Centre.
