History of Garden Supply Company Founded in 1996, Garden Supply Company began as a design and landscape firm named Environmental Design and Management, owned and operated by Keith and Deborah Ramsey. Environmental Design and Management employed three people to design and install small residential landscapes and maintain commercial properties. It operated for one and one-half years before Keith and Deborah had the opportunity to purchase what is currently Garden Supply Company. In the spring of 1997, what was formally Zone 7 was purchased with six acres, one building, a shed and a small amount of inventory. Today, Garden Supply Company has grown into a business employing 40 plus team members. It is currently recognized by its national peers as a rising retail star. This rise to success is due to a clear vision, surrounding themselves with a top-notch professional staff and a love for our craft. Keith and Deborah continue to endeavor to grow this company and their staff to their fullest potential while maintaining top-quality customer satisfaction and a positive influence in the community. Customers come from all over the region including Apex, Cary, Raleigh, Morrisville, Wake Forest, Holly Springs, Fuquay-Varina. Please stop by and visit us. Keith comes from a long background of gardeners, with a humble beginning working in his mother's florist shop in Richmond Virginia. At an early age he showed signs of being an entrepreneur by selling "sharp pencils" and dividing the family's Liriope up to repot and sell from the trunk of his mom's car. As a teenager, Keith worked in a small, family owned garden center. From there he entered college to pursue a landscape design degree while operating a small landscape design business, which he co-owned. After college Keith worked for a full-service interior and exterior installation firm for seven years, opening a branch office in Virginia Beach in 1989 and in Raleigh in 1991. He moved to Cary that year. Deborah received her Bachelor of Arts degree is Psychology. She began her career in retail management at Hess's Department Stores, based in NY and PA. As with most new careers in retail she was offered various positions allowing her to gain experience and live in other parts of the country. In 1986 she took a position at a new boutique "NYFO", owned and operated by Isenbergs in Virginia Beach, VA. This new management position allowed Deborah to learn merchandising and the art of selling one-on-one to the customer. Working closely with the owners for ten years, she learned every aspect of running a small business, which gave her the confidence to leave and form her own company with Keith.
