The High Commission represents the British Government in its relations with the Tanzanian Government and promotes British interests in Tanzania. High Commissioner, Diane Corner, arrived in Tanzania in February 2009 and her tasks are: to present British policies to the Tanzanian Government and people, to report and explain Tanzanian policies and views to the British Government in London, and to promote British interests. The High Commission is divided into the following Sections: 1. Political Section is responsible for political relations between the UK & Tanzania. The UK is committed to a strong partnership with Tanzania and tries to play a positive role in the country’s political and economic development. The UK and Tanzania work together in areas such as international law, human rights, good governance, and democracy. 2. Consular Section provides assistance and protection for British citizens both visiting and resident in Tanzania, including issuing British passports. 3. Visa Section is responsible for entry clearance into the UK. It provides visa services to Tanzanian and other foreign citizens who wish to visit the UK either on business, study or holiday. 4. Press & Public Affairs Section is responsible for contacts with the media and for UK public diplomacy in Tanzania. The main purpose of the section is to promote a positive image of the United Kingdom and its policies. 5. Management Section is responsible for all personnel, financial and administrative services, as well as resources of the High Commission and supports all other sections. 6. Commercial Section is responsible for the promotion of British exports to Tanzania and is responsible for inward investment from to the UK. This includes the organisation of trade fairs in Tanzania and visits by trade missions from the UK.
